Seminar - Production of PVA/Sol-Gel-Based Biosilica Gel Composite Films

Seminar Title: Production of PVA/Sol-Gel-Based Biosilica Gel Composite Films

Seminar Date and Time: April 20, 2017, 12:00 p.m.

Seminar Location: KMB-319

Seminar Advisor: Asst. Prof. Dr. Nil ACARALI

Seminar Presenter: Enver Can KILIÇ, M.S. in Chemical Engineering

Seminar Abstract: In this study, polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)/wet silica gel composite films were produced.  In the production of silica films, TEOS (tetraethyl orthosilicate) and TMOS (tetramethyl orthosilicate) or sodium silicate solutions are generally used as silica sources. In this study, rice husk ash—an agricultural waste product and inexpensive raw material—was used as the silica source. Furthermore, unlike in other studies, the silica was incorporated into the films in gel form for the first time.
